Information

Your tyres are the only part of your car in contact with the road surface. Your safety in braking, acceleration, steering and cornering all relies on a small area of contact between your tyres and the road. It is therefore imperative that you regularly check and maintain your tyres. If you have any doubts we will be happy to carry out a free tyre safety check for you.

Tread depth The legal limit is 1.6mm of tread depth across the central ¾ of the tyre all the way round. It is generally recommended that you change your tyres when your tread depth reaches 2mm. Most tyres have tread wear indicators, when they are flush with the surface of the tyre it’s time to renew your tyres. Having less than the legal tread depth on your tyres could earn you a £2500 fine and 3 points on your driving licence, as well as seriously compromising your safety and that of your passengers and other road users.

Tyre Pressure It’s a good idea to get into the habit of checking your tyre pressure every two weeks, as well as before setting off on a long journey. Tyres should be checked when cold. The correct pressure for your car can be found in the vehicles handbook.

Tyre condition We also recommend that you visually inspect your tyres regularly for cracks, cuts or bulges. These can often lead to slow punctures or even blowouts.

We are committed to tyre safety. We aim to educate our customers on the importance of correct tyre maintenance to avoid becoming just another road casualty statistic. We believe that when you look after your tyres, your tyres will look after you!

We promote road safety and encourage motorists to take advantage of our free tyre safety check.

If you're unsure of your tyre size all of the information you need is on your tyre sidewall.

How to find your tyre size

Run Flat Tyres

In recent years many manufacturers have opted to fit run flat tyres to their new cars. Run flat tyres have been developed in order to minimise the risks associated with a puncture. A puncture may cause a driver to lose control of their vehicle due to the tyre losing its shape and structure on deflation. In conventional tyres the pressurised air contained within the tyre supports the weight of the car. Run flat tyres have been designed to support the weight of the car themselves, through reinforced sidewalls or in some cases an internal support ring. If the tyre loses air it can maintain it's shape, although only for short distances and at low speeds. Run flat tyres eliminate the need to change a tyre on the roadside, allowing you to drive to a safe, convenient place or a garage. We are coming across increasing numbers of drivers who wrongly believe that they can drive indefinitely on a deflated run flat tyre. Run flats are designed as a safety feature and should be changed as soon as possible if you detect a puncture.
